Social media has become an important way to establish a brand and market a product or service online, and authors are no exception. Creating a Facebook page also helps to establish credibility and an online reputation. It allows us to help control what is posted online and focus advertising on our target demographic.

Obtaining Facebook “likes” for an author or book page is a relatively simple process, and you don’t have to pay anyone to do it for you.

Create an Author Page

To get Facebook likes, an author page must first be setup. To create a page, a Facebook account must be established in the owner’s name. To do this, you only have to register your email, create a password, and fill out a few minor details.

Once the email address has been verified, a Facebook author page can be created. The author’s name, details, customized URL, and profile photo can then be set by walking through the step-by-step process. Facebook pages are public by default, meaning anyone can like the page without approval from the owner.

Share content that offers value to readers and creates a sense of urgency.

Create a Book Page

In addition to creating an author page, Facebook also allows you to create pages for books and other entertainment media. Similar to an author page, a book page allows authors to promote specific titles and can be “liked” by Facebook users in the same way as an author page. Book pages are also public by default, meaning the owner does not have to approve individual likes. The book page links directly to the author page, meaning when fans search for a title they will also see the author of that book.

Although creating both a book page and author page means separate likes for each one, authors will also get more exposure in search engine results.

Put “Like” Buttons Everywhere

Once an author page and a book page have been created, the next step is to place “like” buttons wherever it’s possible. This means placing them on websites, blogs, individual blog posts, and other social media accounts.

This allows readers to like the page without having to search through Facebook. For those who are unfamiliar with the process, Facebook provides resources to help you walk through setting up a like button.

Create Content People Will Share

Buying Facebook likes won’t help at all. In fact, most likes that are bought come from fake Facebook profiles.

Creating content and posting status updates is the best way to attract new fans. It’s even better if they share the content with their own social networks. As a rule of thumb, be consistent with status updates, use eye-catching images, be entertaining, and offer some sort of value. It’s also a good idea to keep posts as short as possible to keep the reader’s attention.

Run a Facebook Ad Campaign

For those who are not on a tight budget, running a Facebook ad campaign is another way to attract high-quality, targeted likes. (This is different than “buying Facebook likes.”) For an ad campaign to be successful, it must be consistent. Running one ad for a single day will not amount to much. Be prepared to spend a bit of money if running an ad is part of the plan. By default, Facebook charges each time the ad is clicked on. While there are other options for setting up the ad, this is the most cost-effective one, unless you have a sizable budget to spend.

Starting from zero likes may seem like a tall task to accomplish, but with consistency and dedication, it is possible to attract high-quality likes. Remember to create entertaining and shareable content that offers value to readers, post as often as possible, and place “like” buttons everywhere.
